Another blah blah post...

So I know these posts are just so darn boring, but hey, you're my captive audience and I want to talk, damnit. So here we are.

First, about my weekend: I had a nice (but hectic) time in Denver for all of 24 hours. The weather wasn't that bad, so I was surprised pleasantly. Interview went well, I think (it's always hard to really say, isn't it?) and the program seems amazing and challenging. Next weekend is a combined interview/family visit in Connecticut, so that should be fun. But I have to say I can't wait until this is all over and I know what my life will be for the foreseeable future. Stressful, this all is!!

But along the same lines, I've been toying with the ideas about my work/my love of fashion. I've had soooo much fun blogging in this past half year and love hearing from my readers (thank you to my 181 fans! So exciting and I'm grateful to all of you! Plus the non-followers, I lurve you too.) However, I also love psychology and will be in school (WILL BE, ya hear?). Which poses the inevitable question: how will I keep both up, especially since the worlds are so different? I guess I'm not sure if I'll be able to do the school thing (and not just school, but a Ph.D. program) and blogging at the same time. Don't get me wrong, I want to! I do! I'm just a little unsure I'll have the time to dedicate like I do now, sans school. The future of my blogging is questionable, but I'm holding out hope.

This calls for a little question of my readers, especially the ones who are in school and blog (or something similar): how do you do it? Do you find the time? Is it a distraction or a welcome outlet from school?

  1. Blogging is definitely fun and I think it's a really nice outlet for me....however, at the same time, to do it regularly, I think I definitely have to devote a lot of time to it that comes from my "work time" budget, which is not the best thing ever. Hrm, I have faith though Justine that you will find a way to be more organized than I am :)

  2. I love your blog and I would sad if you give it up! I am a political science PHD candidate, I am just finishing work on a high-profile campaign, and I also work a part-time retail job. I love blogging and I make time to do it. Even though you will be in school, you will still have time for a hobby. and trust me, you will want it.

  3. No need to be stressed about Blogging Justine!... Your blog is great and would still be if your daily posts became, every other day or every 3rd day, or you took finals hiatuses, etc.

Like Anjali said, blogging is a great outlet. You may find more time (for less extensive posts) while in school just to take a break from the studying,etc... Good luck with the interviews!

  4. I work full time and go the grad school and still have time to blog. My blog is my outlet from stress. I have so much fun doing it and I've met some amazing people through it that I always manage to make time for it, you may just have to limit the amount of posts per week.

  6. Thanks for the vote of confidence, girls! I'm sure when I have a clearer idea of what kind of undertaking this really will be, I can make a more informed decision. I'm just a bit worried! :-/

  8. The Coastal ChicsterFebruary 22, 2010 at 2:07 PM

i think it's so important to have hobbies outside of work and school. i used to blog ALOT when i was 22-24, but then my blog sort of faded off to nothing for quite some time. when i started the coastal chicster back in october (at age 28), it was because i needed a creative outlet outside of work for myself. :) looking back - i used to spend so much time blogging. now i commit myself to doing it twice a week and i usually end up finding some time to do a little more than that. i'm glad it's a hobby i've kept going. :)

  9. As you know, I am in my first year as a teacher which is CRAZY HARD and takes up a ton of time. All of my other first-year teacher friends are so confused as to how I find the time and energy for the blog. Honestly, though, it's one of my favorite parts of my life and I am so glad I have a lighthearted outlet with all the horrible things that can happen at my school. The blogging community has kept me buoyant when I have felt AWFUL.

  10. Hi Justine,

Your blog post made me smile today because I am a (hopefully) future clinical psych grad student from Colorado, and I knew immediately that you are referring to the program at University of Denver. They have a very strong program with some great options, like the developmental track that you can add on. Denver is a great city: There is so much to do there, not to mention its proximity to smaller towns like Boulder and Highlands Ranch which offer a little bit of everything. And the shopping... oh let me tell you, you won't be disappointed in the wide range of malls and shops. If you ever have any questions about CO, please feel free to ask. I hope your interview went well and my fingers are crossed that you get admitted there!

  11. I'm in medical school and I blog- definitely not as regularly as I used to, but it really doesn't take that long and it's fun! a lot of my relatives use it to keep up with what's going on in my life, also.

  12. I am a new blogger and have had the same concerns as you. I work full time, and more often than not I work a lot of extra hours. But I have found that blogging has been such a relaxing thing for me that I make time to do it. You can always try to keep up with both things, and if blogging seems to be getting in the way, you could always cut back on your number of posts for a while? I think we would all be sad if you quit blogging all together! Good luck with your interviews!

  13. Oh Justine, I love your blog and I would hate to see you go. I do not have a blog, I know it takes time and effort to keep a blog, but I know some of friends consider their blogs an outlet.
Good luck with your interviews and keep us posted.

  14. oh wow, how cool! Are you looking at that program? Moving to Denver would be a big undertaking and I'm still not sure I'm up to the task, but we'll see-- I guess I need to be accepted first. Hehe... thanks for the kind words and the offer of advice!!

  16. I've been wondering this myself! I am currently pursuing my MBA full time and working two part time jobs and with all that in addition to any social activity I want to pursue, I feel like I barely have time to blog!

I'm in awe of all of the bloggers that manage to post on a regular basis and keep up in their normal lives. I try to blog 3-5 times a week, but when I miss a few days due to exams or midterms I worry that it seems like an eternity to my readers!

My boyfriend (who has been blogging since like, 1999) says not to worry and that your readership is still interested in what you have to say no matter how often or when you say it. I'll still be reading if you keep posting. And yes, it will probably continue to be several days behind everyone else.
