OOTD: Rebecca Minkoff Helmut pants

Uninspired post title, yes. And again, I fool you with the "OOTD" title... I haven't actually "worn" this yet because of the debate between return/keep. But the following is how I would wear it, should I keep.

Which brings me to my question du jour: These pants: what do I do? Keep or return? (btw, this is the other item I scored from the Shopbop F+F sale). Here's a pro/con list:

1. I don't own any other khakis (that fit).
2. They fit pretty well, I think!
3. They're trendy without being overboard.
4. I really like how they go with some of my items... a nice departure from the jean look.

1. I'm nervous that, because I'm not a "khaki" girl, I won't wear them enough.
2. The pocket is cute, but I'm nervous the paint-splatter print will clash with some things.
3. They're too expensive to sit on a hanger in my closet, unworn.
4. Will they go out of style? (my thought= no, but still a concern...)

Top: UO silk top
Scarf: skulls! yay! :) (from a Dallas boutique)
Belt: F21
Shoes: Chinese Laundry

And a quick shot of just the pants, for fit and detail's sake (p.s., if you can't tell, they sit low on the waist but have a slightly dropped crotch effect):

Thoughts? Suggestions? Comments? Help?!

  1. In my honest opinion...

I do respect fashion, however I don't think all fashion is wearable in everyday life (or I should say, my non-risky everyday life).... to me, I find pleats like that unflattering, so I stay away from them. I also think the seat (rear view) looks a bit like pants that would deemed "fashion school" pants on Project Runway (bc of the drop crotch - not your bum haha)... you know what I mean??

for the money, I'd get something more classic and lasting (esp since you aren't a khaki girl - and you are already questioning them) and see if I could spend less on something similar elsewhere just in case the trend doesn't stick....

I like the idea of them but the fit is not my favorite. But I do prefer them styled with a tucked in top better because I feel like in the second pictures I can see the style of them more. I think something about the fit at the bottom also seems off to me.

I actually love the way you styled this look! My only pushback would be, that, for the money, will you still be loving the pleats a year from now?
I own about 5 pairs of pleated pants like this, but they were all extrememly inexpensive so therefore less painful to get sick of.

  4. I usually do not wear khakis. I am not too sure about the pleats in the front and for the price I think you can get something else that you can wear more. Hope it helps!

  5. I like them from the front because you are long and lean. Not so sure about the rear though. I hate saying it, because you are gorgeous woman! But I don't know if they are worth the money...

  6. i think you might be one of the few women who can pull those off. I could never wear them myself because my hips are so wide (like much wider than any other part of my body) so they just wouldn't work for me!

LOL when I said bottom I meant ankles! haha

  8. I don't like the pleats. I like where she almost tried to go w/ the zipper detail w/ the back pocket and ankle (pseudo apocalyptic). I don't like the paint splatter.

Go long, lean, Katherine Hepburn. Or, go simple with some cool detailing - but no pleats.

  9. I think I agree with Amber, something about the fit seems off to me. :( I think you could find a better pair honestly.

  10. I think they are awesome. But I have been on the hunt for a jodhpur-look pant, so I might be biased. I think they would mix well with your flowy blouses and blush colored tops. You don't look totally happy/comfortable in them, so there's that too. Let us know what you end up deciding!
