OOTD: Green lace.

I'm really really happy that lace is on-trend for spring. I'll say it once, I'll say it again: I heart lace. I know I'm becoming a broken record so I apologize. When I saw how Shopbop styled this Twelfth St. by Cynthia Vincent dress I just had to have it for myself (plus a little sale price never hurts!).

While I didn't style it nearly as well as Shopbop did, I did try the tights/boots pairing. I should pull out my fur vest and try it on with this, though!

Almost sold out on Shopbop, but it's in full stock at Nordstrom! I tried this on the other day and woah, it's super cute (and TTS). I imagine it with a maxi skirt, belted at the waist and some huge sunnies. Plus, lace is a big trend for the spring... and we all know how I am about my trends. Now for the weather to begin to cooperate with me and my dreams. Hrmph.

OOTD: A little staycation.

Sorry about the non-warned hiatus I took, readers! I do hate excuses, but I'll offer one anyway: my 17-year old sister was in town until today and spent a long weekend with us. Despite her pleading to "do a blog and let me take the pictures!", I decided to just resume my regularly scheduled posting today instead.   :)  I guess on the topic, I'll mention that this coming weekend will also require a little hiatus because I'm headed to DC on Friday. It shouldn't interrupt all that much, since I don't do too many weekend posts as it is, but just an FYI. I can't wait to report back about all the fun I have, though!

Here's a quick OOTD-- I decided to take my rarely-worn Modcloth dress and make it into a top instead of a short, tight dress. Made it more office-appropriate, I think! Plus, I do love a kinda-retro outfit every once in a while (and yes, retro does equal high waisted, flowy and knee length for me). I revealed my little secret in one of the following pictures.... hehe...

I got a lot of compliments and comments on the F21 lace shorts in my OOTD earlier today-- thank you! Unforunately, they were for sale at Forever 21 probably 2-3 months ago (I had been looking for a pair of "boudoir" shorts after perusing the spring runways and there they were!) and most likely are not in stores anymore.

Soooo, I did a little searching on this world wide web and found some "inspired-by" pieces that can give you a similar look. I did not find an exact match, which stinks, but if you're wanting to recreate the boudoir short look like I was, these picks may appeal to you. Enjoy!

Plus gals, remember: lace will continue to be in style through Fall '10, so these boudoir shorts with the addition of some textured tights will look fantastic come the cooler months!! :)

Yesterday, the loverley Erinn gave me a shout-out on her bliggity blog for being a flowy blouse repeat-offender. Can't argue there! :)  Today, I'm throwing her a shout-out in the way of one of her fave staple pieces: the grey cardigan. This may be a go-to for her, but for me, it's really unusual. And I'm totally loving it. (maybe it's a cheat, because isn't it reminiscent of a blazer? oh, me.) Last night, I  paired it with my lacy shorts, a cream colored tee and a bib necklace to create what I'd like to think is "laid-back chic." Ahem.

It's so hard being in an office with no windows when it is as nice as it is right now here in Dallas. The problem is, there are only about 2-3 weeks worth of nice weather-- meaning low 70s and sunny. We're already starting to creep into the 80s this week, and if it gets cooler again we can except rain and gloom. Yuck. I hate that I cant' really enjoy it! So although I actually wore ponte leggings and a denim jacket to work, I really wanted to bask in the warmth and sunlight by showing off the gams. Hence the "fantasty" outfit (which, by the way, doesn't feature an item that was in my real OOTD but does feature the same shirt from F21 from the last reality/fantasy outfit set! and a plethora of F21 items [I swear I shop at other stores]).

In other news, my Anthro jacket is here in Dallas (a mere 2-3 day shipping turnaround!)... it's just not yet in my possession. Damned USPS and their inability to leave anything on my doorstep just to make me sad. Well, I mean I think that's what they're trying to do, because it's what happens every time I get a delivery confirmation email to find that it's not really delivered to my little hands. Sad. And oh yeah... ummm... kinda ruined my whole shopping ban in just a matter of a few days, so please be forgiving, my darling and understanding readers. However, I did manage to get some things that I expect to become spring/summer staples, so it makes it ok. Right? Right! I'll share them as soon as they start arriving. If USPS/UPS is feeling giving, that is.

Styling help: The Boudoir Shorts.

I freaked a little when I saw these on F21's website... I think I even posted about them because I was so excited. I hesitated on them, and thought about it for some time but just couldn't seem to get them out of my head-- they just seemed to be the perfect way to try the boudoir-inspired hot-shorts that is a trend this spring. I really wanted a silk pair with lace edging (in cream, ahem), but since I never found those, I decided to get this pair.

Yay!

But.

Uhh... how in the hell do I style these things?!

Ok, so they're just black shorts with a bit of lace on 'em, nothing way too far out there. But they need to be the center of attention... I mean, c'mon. They're lace shorts.  The first look is good 'cuz it's rather neutral, but it's just not special at all. The second look with the floral BCBG blouse is OK, too, but maybe doesn't let them shine like they need to. The third look with the blazer is just too much for the dainty shorts and definitely doesn't say "spring," and the last one is blah. Just blah.

I'm going to have to play around a bit on Polyvore to see how this will work, but I'm forseeing a requisite purchase in order to achieve the look I wanted. What I envision= something sexy without being over the top, something light and feminine (keeping with the boudoir-esque feel; think silk and pastels), and something that says "Spring."(Patterson J. Kincaid has some fun tops that are pretty casual but flowy to balance the short and body-hugging shorts; love the Lilac top!)

So, my lovely and talented readers-- what say you? How would these look best? Top? Cardi? Blouse? Tee? (help. please.)

It's the addition of the boots, I'm sure of it. But it was raining today and pumps felt a little too inappropriate for the weather. Mehhh... don't you hate those days when you walk out of the house and think, "My outfit sucks?" I really don't think this weather is helping any, either. Take the good with the bad, I suppose. Just when I began to despair about doing a giveaway (uhh, 'cuz I can't spend any money), the gods of blogging (and prolly PR) came through. Yay! Love when things work out like that. OOTD: The best skirt EVER.

I've been wanting this F21 lace skirt since I saw it in the store 2 weeks ago. I didn't get it at the time because I had a whole bunch of other things to pick up, but after a few weeks of sleeping on it, I realized I needed it in my life. What I didn't know, though, was how versatile it would really be.

Everyone needs this, especially if you're wanting to try the lace trend for Spring '10. I think this skirt would be flattering on a whole bunch of body types-- the only problem is the sizing. I sized up to a Medium so I could wear it lower (so it'd be a bit longer and more appropriate). But if you can make it work, then do it! Fo'realz.

First attempt: My Polyvore creation. The real reason I actually bought it was to go with my eShakti blazer, and it definitely hit the mark in my books.

 

  

  

  

 

Second attempt: Menswear inspired. This baby was begging me, just begging, to be contrasted with menswear-inspired looks. So I did this, and I quite like it!

 

  

  

  

Third attempt: The peeking slip. I realized this skirt could be a great solution to some of my shorter dresses that were making their way to the end of the line in my closet. Lo and Behold, this little lacey number spruced up an otherwise short and boring hot pink sweater dress. Yay!

 

Really, it's saving me money. It's allowing me to wear all those other items that go unworn. So it was practically free. Or less than free! (rationalization = awesome)Yep. A great purchase. And so pretty and cheap. SCORE.
